A true devotee of the Lord is one who feels the pain of others and joyfully helping those in need,
knows no pride at all.


Sri Gouranga Seva Sadan, the humanitarian service arm of Sri Gauranga Asham established by Baba in 1982,  continues to provide free humanitarian services to poor people in need.

On an average, at least two mobile medical camps are organized every month – sometimes, even three.  From January through June of 2011, eleven camps were organized by the Seva Sadan.  A total of 4,050 patients were examined and given free treatment and medication.

The charitable dispensary at the Ashram also provides free consultation and treatment/medicines to walk-in patients.

Apart from the camps, emergency medical and financial support is also occasionally given to individuals in dire circumstances.  

Earlier this year, Shanti, a young woman in an advance stage of pregnancy, came to the Seva Sadan in an emergency condition with serious complications.  She was admitted to a hospital and underwent a C section and delivered a baby boy.  Timely help by Ashram members saved two precious lives.

The services provided range from free consultation with super-specialists in medicine, ENT, chest, dermatology; orthopaedics, gynaecology, pediatrics, and eye specialists to provision of free medicines, blood testing as well as creating awareness of hygiene and sanitation, reproductive issues and child care counseling.

Upgradation of Dispensary

On 24th February 2011, construction of an upgraded dispensary in the Ashram premises was started. The work is progressing fast and it is anticipated that once necessary permissions are obtained, the clinic will become operational before the end of the year.

Improved services in the following areas will be provided once the new clinic is operational:

  • Free check-up and consultation by specialist doctors
  • Treatment and dressing of skin infections and wounds/boils
  • Free medicines for viral infections, malaria etc, and nutritional supplements to persons holding BPL cards
  • Physiotherapy services

 

Over the next year, plans are afoot to obtain necessary permission to provide pathological services as well.
